The Question Most Agents Can’t Answer
“Why should I choose you?”
It’s a simple question that most agents struggle to answer clearly. I’ve asked it of hundreds of agents in all kinds of markets, and most responses sound exactly the same.
If you’re going to take new ground in 2026—more listings, better clients, or a healthier business, you have to know your answer.
Not just for your clients, but for yourself. Because if you don’t believe in you, why would anyone else?
In commoditized industries like real estate, where there are thousands of agents in nearly every market, there are three areas that, when combined, can clearly set you apart.
- First, become a guide they can trust.
Trust creates confidence. It’s built through empathy, expertise, and authenticity. Empathy says, “You get me.” Expertise says, “You can help me.” Authenticity says, “You’re a real human, not a show.” People don’t trust perfection. They trust someone who is real, understands them, and knows the way forward. - Second, have a plan they can follow.
A plan creates clarity. A clear, visible plan they can see and understand removes guesswork and shows people what happens next. When your process is simple and easy to follow, your value becomes tangible. - Third, build a relationship on choice.Choice creates safety. People need to know they aren’t trapped, pressured, or locked in. When clients know they can step away if the relationship isn’t working, fear drops and confidence rises. It may sound risky, but it’s actually powerful, because pressure creates resistance, while freedom builds trust. This requires believing in your value enough to say, “You’re free to choose me, and you’re free to walk away.”

So here’s the question worth sitting with today.
Why should someone choose you? What would you say?
This week, write your answer down. One paragraph. No jargon. No copying anyone else. Then share it with a colleague and client for honest feedback.
Because clarity here changes everything else.
Your answer may be the first step toward a very different kind of year in 2026.
In your corner,
Chris
